How Does Fear Show Up In Your Body
After class yesterday, a new student told me that after just three weeks of attending the Meridian classes twice a week, her life has changed significantly, and she can finally wear regular underwear.
That means that she has regulated her energetic system, so she is in control of her bladder again.
I immediately understood what she meant because I know how underlying fear affects our physical body.
The bladder energy is part of the water element associated with the kidneys, the brain, and the endocrine system. When the water element is out of balance, the emotions of fear and insecurity appear.
The saying "It scared the piss right out of me" has merit. When we are in fear, we often lose control of our bladder.
By regulating our breath, we regulate our emotions. A deep abdominal breath brings our energy back into resonance. When we are in resonance, our system can return to a harmonious flow where healing can occur; this is homeostasis.
Once we've established a consistent long, slow breath, we can focus the mind to guide the energy through the meridians (the energy pathways of the organs). This ancient medicinal chi gong practice is called Yi Qi LI, guiding energy with consciousness. It profoundly affects the regulation of our energy and, therefore, controls our emotions.
When we can apply this focused breathing while stretching and pressurizing the meridians in yoga and chi gong poses, we give ourselves an acupressure treatment. This is energy medicine.
Disease often starts at an energetic level, and if it is not tended to, it will chronically manifest emotionally and physically.
We are ultimately responsible for our own healing. However, our culture does not teach this, so we feel powerless and reliant on others to heal us. Too often, we are prescribed medication that only masks the issues and doesn't get to the root of the problem.
Exercise is one of the top remedies for most of our ailments. Add in a deep, long abdominal breath (known as emotional hygiene breathing) and a focused mind to slow down incessant thinking, and you're giving yourself an all-in-one treatment for your body, mind, and emotions.
I'm always amazed at the stories about how quickly a consistent practice of coming to classes just twice a week transforms us from feeling less anxious to having joint pain relief to sleeping better.
I hope to see you on your mat soon.
From my heart to yours~
Namaste,
Maggie
