Creating A Daily Discipline Is Easier With Support
If we were to align specific practices that correspond to the energy of the season, we would have more success in sustaining them.
This is ancient Chinese medicine wisdom, knowing that the energy (chi) shifts each season, based on the relationship of the earth to the sun.
This sun's chi is like the electricity or wifi signal that powers the organs, like computers, each with their own function. Knowing this gives us a seasonal focus, so we're flowing with the energy, not against it.
Each season's energetic frequency affects a particular pair of organs, which also corresponds to specific bodily tissues, sense organs, and emotions.
In this late summer, moving into fall, the energy that runs through the spleen and stomach feeds the lung and large intestine chi, which are in high tide in the autumn.
The bodily tissue related to the late summer are the large muscle groups in the legs and abdomen, making it the easiest time of year to build strength.
The consciousness of the late summer is known as Yi, which means acquired knowledge -- what we learn in our lifetime. Therefore, our intellect is strong in the late summer, which makes learning new things a bit easier this time of year.
In the fall, the metal element's energy corresponds to the lungs. Metal has integrity, is self-reflective, can cut away what's no longer needed, and has the strong quality of discipline. This makes the autumn the best time to cultivate a discipline that will serve us.
A daily discipline that can help cultivate an energetic alignment to the sun and the seasons is meditation and yoga. These practices set our bodies and minds up to be more efficient as meditation is like a shower for the mind, clearing emotional debris that can drain our energy and distort the way we are seeing things. and yoga releases the issues in our tissues, so our bodies feel strong and free of aches and pains that can be distracting and depleting.
One of the surprising benefits to both meditation and yoga is how they make us kinder people! When we release tension held in the body and mind, we are more open and accepting to ourselves and others.
Meditation creates space in the mind and allows for wisdom to shine through. Wisdom often leads us to compassion, having a deeper understanding that a strong discipline is worthy of making time for.
This is one of the biggest takeaways that students have gleaned, to make time for daily meditation and yoga actually gives us MORE time throughout the day because of how calm and efficient they make us.
Creating a daily discipline doesn't happen overnight, it often takes 30-40 days to implement it into our system. The benefits to having a daily yoga and meditation discipline not only create a strong, flexible body and a calm, centered mind but protect us from illness and emotional turbidity. We bounce back quicker when sick or emotionally deregulated.
